Hi,
i wanted to colorize my first model and was very disappointed, that simplycolor3d does reduce the resolution of my model by a lot.
(see screenshot, same model left prusa slicer and right simplycolor3d)
I want to print that in a size of at least 30cm*30cm, maybe up to 40cm*40cm, thats why i really need that high resolution or else i will see every triangle in the final print. (i can easily see them in the g-code)
Is there a way to configure the the value that limits the resolution? - I know you do it to save memory or so, but i have a lot of memory and would prefer to keep that high resolution.
Thank you!
Hi @teaobvious
we don't reduce the models to save memory; it's done because there is a limitation on the automatic unwrapper. If you can unwrap the models yourself, perhaps using blender, then you can skip the model face reduction. I've added a section in the manual describing how to do this. Pages 49 to 52 currently.
You may still encounter a limit as to how large in MB a model you can load in SimplyColor3D but I cannot say for certain as it may vary by machine.
Let us know if this works.

Hi Thank you for that Guide, i will give it a try next weekend and report back. This sounds very promising! 🙂
Hi, took me some while to get back to this topic. Sadly i have to say, basically it seems to work. How ever with my model, i need this method for, causes SimplyColor3D to be stuck in "Analyzing model" for over an hour now. I already reloaded multiple times.
I also did the the change the header to this part: (of course renamed the mtl file to match)
# created by BigBrain3D mtllib ./SimplyColor3D_PaintedModel.mtl
In our tests we've only been able to load models with max 500K faces. The default when uploaded from inside SC3D is 200K faces. You could try reducing the mesh to 500K with meshlab, then unwrapping, and see if that works. Or attached the files here, or email then to info@bigbrain3d.com and we can take a look at what is possible.
The following file is a model, where i do not have the rights to distribute it, so please delete it from my post before you unlock it to be public. I am also uploading a second 7zip with my unwrapped reduced resolution model. Same rule here, please delete that file before you unlock my post.
I don't think that you can do much, i guess i would need a proper standalone tool for that job, not a javascript app.
I've uploaded the file in the original resolution (i already reduced the poly count to 1/3 in my tests).
here is my unwrapped file, please delete after you downloaded it.

@bigbrain3d here you have the files, as said please delete them as soon as you got them 🙂
Thanks.
